If you are looking for a last-minute gift for dad, the Conway Medical Center Foundation has a suggestion for you. Forget the tie or another gadget for the grill. Why not think outside the box this year and focus on your dad’s health? With 1 in 23 men being at risk of developing colorectal cancer, give the gift of a colonoscopy to a person in need and give your own father a friendly reminder to get screened.
“Over the years, hundreds of people in need have been referred to us from places like Friendship Medical Clinic and other outreach programs,” said Susan Scarce, Assistant Director of Development with the CMC Foundation. “Many of them either don’t have insurance or are otherwise unable to afford medical procedures. Our foundation helps them get colonoscopies and other lifesaving screenings through funds donated to our GI Patient Care Fund.”
“It’s so important that we remind our fathers to take care of themselves,” said Susan. “Consider donating the money you’d spend on a Father’s Day gift to the GI Patient Care Fund in honor of your dad. Then you can let him know that you both saved a life and use that to find out if your own father has been screened. Your interest in his health and possibly your insistence that he get a colonoscopy if he hasn’t already, could be the greatest Father’s Day gift he’ll ever receive.”
