CMC Expands Services for Cardiac Care

Conway Medical Center is excited to announce the expansion of CMC’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab services to include Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). With the addition of PCI, patients will have access to a wider scope of services closer to home.

Some of the services now offered at CMC with PCI include diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, balloon angioplasty, and stent placement, along with CMC’s continuation of pacemaker and intra-cardiac defibrillator services.

“This is a great development for our organization, but most importantly for our community,” said Bret Barr, CMC President and CEO. “With this new expansion, heart attack victims in our community will have access to care, lifesaving technology, and our staff’s skill to do what they do best, save lives. As the regions only Duke Health Affiliate in Heart, we will also benefit from their expertise as we bring more lifesaving care to Horry County.”

In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds on average, and heart disease is the leading cause of death. A heart attack happens when part of the heart muscle does not get enough blood. The more time that passes without treatment to restore blood flow, the greater the damage to the heart muscle.

Dr. Stephen Brady, will assume the Director of Cardiology role, overseeing the new program. “Conway Medical Center providing this service drastically shortens the time it takes to get to the hospital for treatment. As they say, time is muscle, and the faster we can get patients to the cath lab and open that artery, the less damage they’ll have,” said Dr. Brady.

The new interventional services are now available at CMC for emergency treatment of heart attacks and elective treatment for cardiovascular disease.
