New Colon Cancer Screening Initiative
CMC Foundation is proud to announce a new initiative to help prevent Colorectal Cancer, the number two cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. The Colon Cancer Screening Initiative will pay for a screening colonoscopy for those who are uninsured and meet the guidelines of needing a colonoscopy. All referrals for the program will go through Friendship Medical Clinic. The Gastrointestinal Fund was set up by a CMC Gastroenterologist who saw the need to help fund screening colonoscopies for the indigent population in our community. According to DHEC over 60% of colon cancer deaths could be prevented by proper screening.
We are excited to annouce a new partnership with the Center for Colon Cancer Research at the University of South Carolina. This partnership will allow us to provide even more colonoscopies to those in need.
