Bret Barr Assumes Role as President & CEO of CMC
CONWAY, SC– Effective January 1, 2018, Bret Barr has assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Conway Medical Center (CMC). Barr brings a wide breadth of experience and passion to his new role and worked closely for 19 years with Phil Clayton, who retired as CEO December 31, 2017.
“Our board has confidence in Bret’s leadership and commitment to providing the highest quality healthcare to patients and families in our community as we continue to expand our services,” stated Leroy “Boe” Rainbow, Chairman of the CMC Board of Trustees. “His experience, education and ability to forge strong working relationships with employees, physicians and community leaders will continue to be an asset to CMC.”
Barr was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and attended Indiana University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He received his master’s degree in Health Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. Barr joined CMC in 1998 as Controller and was named Chief Financial Officer in 2001 and Chief Operating Officer in 2016.

Conway Medical Center is defined by its historical ability to consistently meet the healthcare needs of Horry County. The nonprofit medical center, was established in 1928 as Horry County’s first hospital and has 210 inpatient beds; a 66-bed long-term care facility, Kingston Nursing Center; a 22-bed sub-acute care facility, Medstar; an Outpatient Diagnostic Center and Conway Physicians Group (CPG), a multi-specialty group of 19 physician offices affiliated with the hospital.
